Moving On!

Cloth Diapers are so last month!! What's new... Clothes for cloth diapers. I have been practicing and making "longies" (pants that work as a cover for cloth diapers), shirts, shoes, slippers, bibs, and blankies.

How I Wash Cloth Diapers

Washing cloth diapers is dont TOTALLY different by everyone who has them! Here is my routine. It seems complicated but once you get used to it it's not bad. I wash about every other day. I have a top load washing machine.

This is the link for the simply clean detergent that I use: www.simplycleanok.com (try monkey farts sent - it smells good and my kids love the name!!)

For washes during the week I;
cold rinse w/ 1 tbsp Simply Clean
Hot wash w/ 2 tbsp Simply Clean
Cold rinse again

On weekends I wash the diapers with 1/4 cup REGULAR tide and no simply clean. It seems to get them just a little cleaner but you do need to do an extra rinse to make sure to get it all out.

On the first of every month I "strip" all my inserts. You can do this if they get stinky or if they start to smell like ammonia. I do a cold rinse, then a hot wash with a 1/2 - full cup tide and a full cup bleach. Then three - four rinses to make sure to get all the bleach out so it does not irritate my kids bottoms.

Whats your Favorite Diaper?

Favorite diaper is a hard one to answer I use a few different ones for different things but here it is;
BumGenius OS and Wahmies OS are my all around diapers. I can use them anytime and rarely have a problem. I like the wahmies because with the hooks my little guy cant pull them off - but my husband hates the hooks because with his big hands he has trouble getting the hooks undone.
I use Bum-wear AI2s when I need something supper trim, like under church clothes that are too small!
Around the house I like fitted diapers (they are not waterproof and if you put clothes on over them fitteds need a cover) I like peewells and butterfly babies best in fitteds - mostly I like fitteds because they are so stinking cute!!

I also have a five year old son who is handicapped and still needs to wear diapers. He is 42lbs so I don't have a lot of choices with him but I use XL Fuzzy Bunz and XL Happy Heinys.

Cloth Diapers - My latest obsession

It's true I am currently OBSESSED with cloth diapers. I get on my soap box to anyone who will listen and talk about how wonderful they are! According to my husband this is the WORST hobbey I have ever had. But here is why I love cloth diapers (in no particular order);
-they make changing diapers fun (and isn't that enough of a reason?)
-they are better for the environment so it makes me feel good about myself
-they are better for my baby (who needs chemicals from foreign country's covering your baby?)
-they are just plain cute
-they are cheaper (assuming you don't become addicted and buy one of every kind )
-I know there are more reasons, I just cant think of any right now

Stay Tuned...

This weeks Obsession...

The term "jumping in with with both feet" does not even begin to describe me. When I find something that I am interested in I put EVERYTHING into it. My time, my money, my energy - you name it. While my husband very patiently waits out most of my "interests", there are some he tolerates more then others. Here you can follow my adventures in whatever!
